With the invention of the money, people realized that they can earn more by producing more than they need. This brings the wealthiness term into the life. The problem of keeping that wealthiness were being solved with the invention of governmental forces which was supported by rich merchants, priests and families. Those forces were responsible to publish regulations and declare punishments about criminal activities against someone else’s rights (mostly economical of course). So to say, government is the civilization tool of wealthiness being created by rich class of the society feeling the fear of inequality conditions they causes. As John Locke, Thomas Hobbes and J.J. Rousseau said, a Community Contract is inevitable to be signed between the classes! For example, Bourgeoisie class got the chance of signing a new advantageous contract with the aristocracy class in the French Revolution.
But of course, there were some problems being happened in the history while implementing those regulations in the contracts, because we are smart-animals and as T. Hobbes said, “The condition of man is a condition of war…everyone against everyone.”.
B.2.i – Government, Surveillance and Freedom
Political systems depend on the assurance of governmental sovereignty. A legal and forceful authority must exist to validate the execution mechanism of society and to keep the sanction power of its judiciary system.
Governments are also the assurance of our freedom, the right of choosing the way to live our lives as we want. But inexorably, it restricts the freedom of citizens in someway for the sake of the society’s order. Extraordinary circumstances may bring the necessity of an enhancement for those restrictions and eventually it may end as a surveillance systems or dictatorships.
In modern systems, we assign equal value to each individuals. In other words, the actual purpose of a judiciary system is to provide equal freedom to everyone. However, modernity and her buddy technology make governments capable of implementing its executions almost instantly and much more broadly, by collecting and processing data in real time. That’s why, some of us concern about the privacy and demand legalized standards about “Data Protection” issue.
The “Openness” principle, one of the main dimensions of the New System, can rescue us from a tyrant surveillance of a despotic government by forcing everyone to share their data of actions. Even a government has to inform citizens about what they collect, process and decide!
The new system is proposing more reasonable standing point between Democracy which is vulnerable for social manipulations of oligarchs and Meritocracy which is neglecting most of the unbiased contribution potential of the society by providing Absolute Transparency.
B.2.ii – Meritocracy and Transparency
A. Comte, founder of Positivism, suggest that the only merit ones should give a direction to the politics. He claim that a ‘scientific’ political system can be found by hindering ordinary citizens in participating political decisions because they are ineligible to make the right choices in complex situations.
This brings out the problem of ‘who is meritorious?’ or ‘what action is an indicator of merit?’. Is it enough to use humanity’s ancient knowledge about ethics (religions) to determine the merit and good-manner? Or do we need more objective/concrete and dynamic calculations about it?
Actually, we should do both! We need to combine our ethical perspective on humanity and the technology which can track and record the actions related to it. Transparency for everyone and for every institute will bring the eventual and fair evaluation and the answer for ‘who is meritorious?’.
Talent rule the society in Meritocracy. Charter systems (specialism licensing), which are already being implemented in developed countries, have to be empowered and enhanced in order to make most objective articulations about the ‘who is meritorious?’ questions as possible as we can. This approach will increase the change of the allocation of complex problems to the skillful, trustworthy hands.
B.2.iii – Invisible Oligarchs and Social Manipulation
Openness must be and obligation for everyone that our leaders won’t be an exception for that. Wikileaks, Panama documents, etc. shows us the invisible iceberg of our economical and political corruption which now has a great tool (social media) to manipulate the opinion of society.
With the insensitive and inefficient election mechanisms (equally weighted Democracy), we are continuously our society mechanism by letting ignorance in the decision making processes. Insensitive, because it is equally weighting/respecting individuals’ decisions. And inefficient, because due to the power of populism, politicians become to be short-term-visioned, lack of finding permanent solutions and implementing structural reforms.
In today’s Democracy, gaining the counts, having the majority on your side makes you always right. And pulling the narrowed and uneducated minds to your side (mostly with the help of religious and national discourses) is much more easy to persuading suspicious ones. Right here, thanks to the technology! It offers a continuous contact with the voters via digital channels where the validation of truth is almost impossible without an strong intention to it.
Not only politicians, but some economical institutions and companies use those mass communication platforms to broadcast their post-truth news and declarations in the aim of profit. So they have enough budget to direct citizens to look different ways while they are unconsciously damaging (e.g.) ecological life on Earth.
